This last fall we decided to start renovating some of the oversized bunkers to recapture a stunning and original look and increase playability. Over the years the bunkers have only grown in size and are now at the point to where they must be reshaped and renovated. We started by removing the sand from the high faces and pulling the liner so we can fill that area in with soil and sod. After the sand and liner is removed, we then reshape the bunker by using thin plywood and wooden stakes to mark the new edges. After the bunker is shaped we then backfill the face with soil and have decided to sod the face with RTF Tall Fescue sod. RTF is a more heat tolerant grass and seems to be beneficial on bunker edges during the heat of the summer. Lastly we add sand to the bunker and prep it for play. Here is a before and after of #12 greenside bunker!
