Snow!
Finally looks like winter around here! A good 8"-12" of snow finally fell over the Omaha metro area along with about 0.5" of rain giving us some much needed moisture during our off-season. With our irrigation system blown out and the ground temperatures freezing, it was impossible for us to fire our irrigation system back up during this warm winter. Therefore we had to fill up the good ol' 250 gallon sprayer with straight water and hit a few of the greens to keep them happy! Low moisture, high winds, and warm days can cause the crown of the turf plant to dry out during the dormant season thus creating Winter Kill. Come spring these areas will likely be dead and not come back without overseeding. On the golf course this can cause serious issues to both the golfers and the maintenance staff. It's our job to keep the course "Playable and Presentable".
